Recently I realized I've been unconsciously placing on myself some unrealistic expectations of creating the perfect blog. For a while there I thought I maybe just had nothing to say, but if that were true my pen and paper journal would be empty too. Much of my journal writing has to do with hang gliding, so I'll be transcribing some of it into here while I make a big, wonderful, sloppy grammar and misused semi-colons hot hot mess of a blog. It will be imperfect and beautiful just like the universe.

Hang gliding is so much more than flying. It's a mindset. It's one of the many things that nurtures my soul and makes me thrilled to be alive and well. In the motorcycling community there is a saying that goes "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand." It's what separates the believers from the ones that don't get it. It's the same with hang gliding. I have so much enthusiasm for the sport I could talk about it for hours (and I thought I had noting to say, LOL) and whenever I start to talk about it with my non-flying friends I can see their eyes glaze over and suddenly their manicures require an inspection. I have the social intelligence to change the subject. Their eyes flit right back up to me like moths to a flame and they reengage in the conversation. I have experienced it enough times now that I mostly keep it to myself and write about it in my journal. But the desire to talk about hang gliding pulls at my heart as much as the act itself, and it's what keeps me coming back to the airport over and over again regardless of flight plans. The chance to talk with like minded people about something I love to do fills my heart with joy. We lost one of those people last week. My life is better just for having met him, and I am very sad that he is gone from this world. I need to mourn Roy's death in my own way, on my own timeline. It is deeply personal. It will be imperfect and beautiful just like the universe.

And the universe is awesome. You are part of the universe. I am part of the universe. So we are awesome too. That's SO Cool!
