I need to put up some photos of the kinds of places hang gliding can take me to help me stay motivated. My winter is already booked solid. I am in training to become a massage therapist. It's incredible. I LOVE MASSAGE! Massage therapists, at least the ones trained at Lakeside, are muscle experts. There is no other health care profession in western medicine that knows as much about the soft tissues of the human body. This knowledge has really helped me kick my strength training routine up a notch because I know every muscle's origins, insertions, and actions and how they are supposed to feel when engaged and relaxed. After the jam on my knees a few weeks ago, which by the way are still tender, I was feeling discouraged about ever being able to transition from an aerotow pilot to a mountain launcher. That would be fine if that was all I ever wanted to do, but I remembered why I started this all in the first place! I do want to be able to fling myself off the cliffs in Rio, the volcanic mountains of Hawaii, and the Swiss Alps just to name a few. And when I was researching wings I saw some videos of pilots in Australia doing something called "dune gooning" where this guy just jumped up and started flying along the beach! Hang Gliding really IS an active sport. So my winter may be filled with non-flying activities, but I have 6 months to make the physical changes necessary to be the kind of pilot I want to be, just in time for the spring thermals. Funny, I feel a musical montage coming on with calendar pages flying off to mark the passage of time.
